At the Dentist Epping, we know that sometimes life can get on top of us – for a whole range of reasons. And sometimes we try to deal with the stress of that by inducing vomiting, binge eating, or starvation. If you’re aware that you do any of these things, please, read on. They can damage your oral health, and when you are well again, you will want your oral health to be as uncompromised as possible.
For more information, go to the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC). That site has evidence-based information on the prevention and management of eating disorders. It also has information about recovery and support services.
For support, you can call the Butterfly Foundation Helpline on 1800 33 46 73. It is open from 8 am to midnight, seven days a week.
If you make an appointment and come to see your Dentist Epping, we can let you know if you have developed any impacts orally and discuss what you can do to minimise them. We may also be able to steer you towards some other local professional who can assist you.
To maintain good oral health, it’s super important to remain well hydrated by drinking chlorinated tap water. When you brush your teeth, use a toothpaste containing more than the usual amount of fluoride – available from many chemists. And critically, after vomiting, drink milk or water or rinse your mouth with a fluoridated mouth wash instead of brushing your teeth immediately.
Please be aware that our discussion will be private and kept confidential! It will be strictly between you and our dentist.
We at your Dentist Epping implore you to come and talk with us. That way, you will have some very discrete professionals on your side to help you deal with the stresses in your life and their consequences. Perhaps you won’t feel quite so alone in dealing with it all.
